TERRAIN: Highlands merged with valley floodplains1. SITUATIONa. Enemy Forces National Liberation Front b. Friendly Forces Army of Republic of Vietnam - ARVN CIDG Montagnards - CIDG 2. MISSION-Reconnaissance Teams Alaska and Iowa are to move out from Cong Ty Airforce base and be fly into the LZ Morgan at 05:00. From there RT Alaska and Iowa will reconnoiter and conduct coordinated raids in south eastern Laos. -71st Company, 145th Aviation Battalion will insert both RT Teams, and then conduct Ariel reconnaissance in the region, as preparation for a future strategic bombing campaign.3. EXECUTIONPHASE I - Movement from Cong Ty Airbase, into Laosa. Upon load in, teams will load up with extra ammunition, grenades, explosives, in preparation for a several week trip into Laos.b. RT Alaska will insert via to LZ Alpha and move to Rally Point Whiskeyc. RT Iowa will insert to LZ Alpha and move to Rally Point Bourbon PHASE II - Reconnaissancea. RT Alaska will move from Rally Point Whiskey to Phase line Red, where they will begin to reconnoiter the area. b. RT Iowa will move from Rally Point Bourbon to Phase Line Blue, where they will begin to reconnoiter the area.c. After reaching these respective phase lines, Recon Teams will commence reconnaissance patrols in an attempt to map the Ho Chi Min Trail & locate strategic targets along the trail. PHASE III - Execution a. After mapping out the AO, each Recon Team will conduct coordinated raids, ambushes, or "booby-trap" any strategic targets that have been located.b. After executing hit and run raids, RT teams will leave the AO with haste. PHASE IV - Evasion a. After exiting the AO, each team will evade any pursuing enemy patrols. b. Each team will then find a concealed location in the bush to set up camp. c. ENDEX **Special Instructions**- Try to map the Ho Chi Ming trail.- Map and note patrol patterns. Where the troops sleep and live.- Locate the supply depots, truck depots.- Locate potential camp sites. - Remaining undetected is of the utmost importance.4.
