1LT J. Kauffman
OPERATION ORDER Operation Overlord 002 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION TIME 9JUNE18 @ 1900 EST (0200 IGT) WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT After the a successful jump into Normandy, we secured the coastal village of Colleville and have pushed on to secure the vital crossroad town of Carentan. Carentan links the only roads from both Utah and Omaha Beach. A Company of German Paratroopers currently occupies Carentan. Our job will be to push them out, and to hold the town until the 1st Infantry Division arrives with Tanks. We are not sure when they will arrive but we believe it'll be within a day a least. A small German Tank school is in Carentan. From our local intelligence they train mainly on old STUG Assault guns and Panzer II's. A German Panzer Division is lurking to our south and may reorganize with the Paratroopers in an attempt to counter attack and retake the city, if we are able to capture it. Expect Panzer IV's, Stug Assault Guns, and possibly Heavy Tank Destroyers, such as Jadgpanthers. We will have no Air Support or Armored Support until the 1st Infantry Division arrives to relieve us. a. Enemy Disposition A Platoon of German Paratroopers is guarding Carentan. There is also a tank school in Carentan. Expect inexperienced Tankers and a Panzer II. If Carentan is captured, expect an organized and heavily armored counter attack. b. Friendly Forces 1st Infantry Division (Reinforcements) c. 1970s - Rules of Engagement On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions: Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MISSION 1st Platoon will advance on Carentan. Once at the outskirts of Carentan, 1-2 is to set up a base of fire at a small farm 100 yards from the village. 1-1 will then advance through machine gun fire and close into Zone 1. Clear it, and clear Zone 2. Once Zone 2 is cleared. 1-2 will advance to clear zones 7 and 8. Once Zones 1, 2, 7, and 8 are cleared, both squads will branch off and clear the southern end of town. Once the village is secured, 1st Platoon is to move southeast of the town and set up defences along a hedgerow along Highway 7. 1st Platoon is to hold in place against enemy Armored counter attack until the Tanks arrive. 71st Company is to establish a field hospital in Carentan and will run resupply and medevacs via jeep to and from the front. Once the 1st Infantry Division arrives to relieve 1st Platoon, 71st Company will mount up in two M4A1 Shermans, and will help 1st Platoon assault the German held ridge, and push them back. ENDEX.
