1. SITUATION:

Generals Eisenhower, MacArthur, and Field Marshall Mannerheim met recently and decided that 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry is to be redeployed from Northern Finland over to the Pacific theater, immediately. We will be coming ashore as part of the first wave of the amphibious assault on the Northern Tip of Peleliu. We expect the Japanese to be unprepared and there to be little resistance. The captain has assured me that the island will be ours within four days, if everyone does their job. See you on the beach.

a. 1940s - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

  1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
  2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
  3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.

2. MISSION

1st Platoon's mission is to land on OBJ Alpha, Welhaven beach, along with friendly forces, establish a beach head, and secure the immediate area. 1st Platoon will then push west to OBJ Bravo, Hill 11, locate and destroy Japanese Artillery emplacements that will certainly be firing on our boys further down the coast. Lastly, 1st Platoon will move south to assault and secure OBJ Charlie, a Japanese strongpoint built into the ruins of a coastal village.
