Kauffman Posted May 14, 2022 Share Posted May 14, 2022 OPERATION ORDER Operation Fortress Ridge 002 South Vietnam - I Corps - Quang Tri Province - Khe Sanh - 1967 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST 5.14.22 ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: Highlands, Quang Tri, South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: Mountainous c. 1960s - Rules of Engagement On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions: Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer. Require authorization & PID, before High Explosives are cleared within 200 meters of a village. 2. MISSION 1st Platoon has been tasked with route clearance along the northern portion of Route 14. 1st Platoon will be moving into OBJ Ant and clearing out enemy mines and sweeping the area for potential enemy ambushes. 1st Platoon has also been tasked with searching the village of Soy, further to the east. If evidence is found that the locals are supporting the Viet Cong cell operating in the area, we are to burn the village and direct the refugees to head north to the next town. 3. EXECUTION MAP OF THE AO PHASE I a. At 1930 EST, 1st Platoon will be dropped into LZ Utah b. From there 1st Platoon will move north to the OBJ Rally Point. c. The Bulk of 1st Platoon will remain at ORP Alpha. d. 1st Platoon will send forward a machinegun team to the west to WP 1. This element will conduct a SLLS stop at each WP, attempting to scan the route and area for enemy activity. e. The MG Team will continue until reaching OP Alpha, once there they will establish a support by fire position, and radio to 1st Platoon that they are set. They will cover 1st Platoon as 1st Platoon clears the route of mines. (If the MG takes contact, they will break contact and move back to ORP Alpha immediately.) f. 1st Platoon will move north along the route, mine sweepers up front. If 1st Platoon takes contact, we will execute Battle Drill 1. If 1st Platoon does not take contact, we will continue until PL Red. PHASE II c. Once clearing the road up to PL Red. 1st Platoon will Rally at OP Alpha. From there the MG team will move to WP 4, conduct a SLLS halt, and continue following Waypoints. Once reaching WP6, the MG Team will locate their own OP, and observe the northern half of the objective. Once set, the MG team will radio 1st Platoon. (If the MG takes contact, they will break contact and move back to OP Alpha immediately.) d. 1st Platoon will move north along the route, mine sweepers up front. If 1st Platoon takes contact, we will execute Battle Drill 1. If 1st Platoon does not take contact, we will continue until PL Yellow. e. Once OBJ Ant is cleared, 1st Platoon will radio Company, giving the all clear, so supplies may move to FSB Wang. PHASE III a. 1st Platoon will move to ORP Bravo & recon OBJ Badger. b. If enemy combatants are identified in OBJ Badger, 1st Platoon will conduct a Platoon attack. If the village appears to be clear, 1st Platoon will cross PL White, and move towards PL Red on-line. c. From there 1st Platoon will move towards the limit of advance, searching houses at each phase line as they go. d. If weapons or evidence that the locals are supplying the local VC cell are found, 1st Platoon will burn the village, arrest suspected VC, and direct the bulk of the civilians to move North to the next town. PHASE IV - ENDEX a. 1st Platoon fly out any prisoners. b. 1st Platoon will be flown out of OBJ Badger, once clear. c. 1st Platoon will ENDEX. 4. SERVICE SUPPORT None 5.
