REGION: South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: City, Urban, Rice Paddies, Rural Tonight we will be continuing to act as 3rd Platoon, Company A, 1/1 Marines. Our platoon captured the bridge last weekend, and attempted to enter the city to render aid to ARVN Troops under attack. On approach to the city, our platoon took heavy fire and were forced to fight our way into the suburbs. We captured the cathedral but at the cost of most of our ammunition & the engine of our single M48 Pattaon. Our sister Platoons encountered even stiffer resistance and have had to dig in in the suburbs around the city. We have been ordered to hold our foothold in the suburbs at all cost, until the Charlie Company arrives with fresh ammunition, armor, and reinforcements. At that point we will attempt to breach the city and clear out their outer defenses. Once that has been done, we will hold position and await the arrival of Bravo and Delta Companies. a.
