South Vietnam - IV Corps -  Sihanoukville Area - September 1968

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SITUATION

OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST

IN-GAME TIME: Depending on command

ORGANIZATION:

1. REGION: Sihanoukville, IV Corps, South Vietnam

2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

3. TERRAIN: Jungle, Delta, Rural, Islands

Our South Vietnamese allies have gotten wind of a VC force building in the proximity of Sihanoukville.
HQ believes that this might be a move to set up anti-air traps to hinder aerial transportation of goods inland.
As MACV still struggle to find the enemies core objective in the area, they have requested the support of 1st Cavalry division to aid in the search for the enemy.

The AO is split into four sectors, each containing at least one point of interrest.

You also have several choices of insert, which might color what resistances you may face.
Scuba-gear and logistics to transport fighting gear will be supplied.

MACV have determined the following points of interrest per sector:
Dirk:

  1. Lonely shack, that locals have seen movement around during night time. Possible VC stash
  2. Thick shrubbery that also crawls with movement during night time

Dagger:

  1. Two artillery craters that MACV believes may be used as artillery positions

Stilletto:

  1. The Town of Lumphat is believed to house VC sympathizers

Bowie:

  1. The island of Phu Quoc
    1. Abandoned radio installation
    2. Abandoned PAVN barracks with dock
  2. The Island of Long Hai
    1. The village of Long Hai itself
    2. The river delta in the island
  3. The small dock in the north east, facing a heavy trafficed river

This is a rough guideline, and the merit of each POI may vary.

a. Enemy Disposition

  1. Unknown force of Vietcong

    1. Unknown Sized Element
    2. Possibly artillery and light anti air
    3. Possibly sampans and some light vehicles

b. Friendly Disposition

  1. Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry Division

c. 1960s - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

  1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
  2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
  3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.
  4. Require authorization & PID, before High Explosives are cleared within 200 meters of a village.

Notes from Commander:

  • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
  • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
