1LT J. Kauffman
WARNING ORDER Operation Queen 003 Hurtgen Forest ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION TIME October 7, 1944 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT) WEATHER: 42F (5C); Heavy Fog; Overcast; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT Last weekend we successfully penetrated the German defenses on the Northwestern corner of our sector. While we had great success in our push to the northwest, 2nd Platoon has been chopped up in an attempt to push northeast towards the Kall River. 2nd Platoon, at less than half strength has consolidated with 3rd Platoon, and they have been forced to dig in and hold in place. Last weekend we took several prisoners, and after interrogation, they were quick to give up information on a coming German Counter Offensive ordered by Field Marshal Walter Model himself, in an attempt to surround and destroy the US Forces bogged down in the forest. Seeing that our forces have been depleted, spread thin, and running low on ammunition, the Germans are preparing a counter attack in an attempt to shatter our remaining forces in this sector. 1st Platoon is being redeployed to cover a stretch of the line just a kilo south of the town of Secheval, a German held town. 1st Platoon will have time to dig trenches, foxholes, gun posititions, and hull down our remaining armor. We can expect heavy artillery barrages on our position, to be followed by several well organized German offensives. 1st Platoon must spread out, cover the entire treeline, and hold the line. If the Germans break through your positions, they will have an open road to Renwez, where our Company HQ, Ammunition, and wounded, lay. If the Germans manage and break through and capture Renwez, there will be no hope of getting out of the forest alive, immediately surrender to the nearest German unit. Due to our good conduct last weekend with German POWs, we can expect that in return you will be treated respectfully as well. If 1st Platoon holds back all the German offensives, launch an immediate counter attack as soon as possible, and attempt to snatch Secheval from the Germans when they are off balance. After Secheval is taken, dig in, and ENDEX in the town. a. Enemy Disposition 275. Infanterie Division 985. Grenadier Regiment 275. Pioniere Battalion 275. Artillerie Battalion 116. Panzer Division Elements of the 60. Panzergrenadier Regiment Elements of the 228. Panzerjaeger Battalion Elements of the 16. Panzer Regiment Possible Enemy action Expect heavy artillery barrages, if the enemy has a fix on your location & if you are stationary for too long. Expect a counter attack after the Germans lose any large swaths of ground, or strategic positions. German Pilots have been reportedly conducting bombing runs admits the foul weather. b. Friendly Forces 2nd Platoon, Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry Regiment 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry Regiment 4th Platoon, Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry Regiment 71st AHC, acting as an Armored Platoon c. 1940s - Rules of Engagement On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions: Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Maps of the Province: Notes from Commander: All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support. If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun. Be sure not to stray too far off the planned & assigned path, due to the high probability of undiscovered minefields. Be sure to stay within 1st Platoon's area of operation, venturing off course into 2nd or 3rd Platoon's AO could result in blue on blue. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MISSION 1st Platoon, A.
