  4. WARNING ORDER Operation Thrasher 001 Rhodesia - AO Thrasher - Border with Mozambique - Winter 1975 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST IN-GAME TIME: 1200 IGT ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: Eastern Rhodesia, border with Mozambique 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: Rolling Hills, mix of Rural with large cities The Rhodesian Security Forces(RSF) have sought to defend the countries borders; however, since the size of the country is roughly 1 & 1/2 times the size of Great Britain, the RSF have struggled to maintain a tight hold on the countries expansive borders. A new front has opened up in the war, following the destabilization of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. ZANU Guerrillas run rampant and control large swathes of the border lands between Mozambique and Rhodesia. ZANU are exploiting the inability of the Portuguese to control their colony's rural areas and are using Mozambique as a safe harbor to gather their strength, be trained by the North Korean and Cuban Armies, and launch assaults into Rhodesia from the east. Due to this massive border, the RSF have resorted to creating small outposts, 5km apart, along the border, manned by a single platoon of Rhodesian forces, to attempt to police the area, locate, and destroy any ZANU forces attempting to infiltrate, attack, or operate in Rhodesian soil. Additionally, recognizing the shared threat that ZANU posses to both Mozambique & Rhodesia, the Portuguese Governor of Mozambique has granted the RSF unilateral freedom to operate, 3km deep into the border of Mozambique. 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, of the Rhodesia Light Infantry Battalion, have been reassigned from the Zambian border, and have been ordered to construct a patrol base within the Mutumbara sector of the border with Mozambique. 1st Platoon will establish a Patrol Base from which it will conduct patrols along the border, establish relations with the locals on both sides of the border, attempt to locate and root out ZANU forces operating in the Area. Additionally, Fire Force 3, has been dispatched to the sector, to act a quick reaction force for all units along the Mozambique Border. Fire Force 3, consists of 3 x Alloutte 3 Transport Helicopters (Commonly known as "G-Cars") and 1 x Alloutte 3 w side mounted MG 151/20 20mm Cannon (Commonly known as a "Lynx"). Fire Force 3, may provide transport & assist ground forces with everything from conducting "Fire Force" Air Assaults as well as transporting Humanitarian supplies. a. 14. WARNING ORDER Operation Medina 003 South Vietnam - I Corps - The Hai Lang Forest - October 1967 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST IN-GAME TIME: 0230 IGT ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: Hai Lang Forest, I Corps, South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: Jungle, Rice Paddies, Rural During last weekends operation we took a prisoner. Our South Korean attache extracted some vital intelligence. We know believe that the entire PAVN Battalion has regrouped and is preparing an immediate assault on our Company's Headquarters. This intel has been corroborated and seems to be confirmed as the locals have fled the villages in proximity to the camp. We lack the manpower & firepower to fend off the force coming our way. The Company Commander has called for immediate assistance from Battalion. The nearest friendly forces are approximately 2 hours out. Our Platoon which is the most undermanned, has been given the task of acting as a tripwire for the company headquarters. The CO has ordered our platoon to move into the enemy's axis of advance & set up an ambush. Our mission is to delay the enemy column for as long as possible, setting up ambushes in the jungle and retreating back to the camp. If we can buy enough time, QRF may just make it to Camp Striker in-time. We will be alone in the jungle without any flank security, so speed and stealth will be essential. Double down on claymores, e-tools, and flares. This will be a night-time operation, however; there should be limited visibility with the moonlight. Once we have run out of jungle, and have fallen back to the camp, make sure to radio ahead of time to avoid blue on blue. 1st Platoon will then fold into the company's defenses & prepare to hold the perimeter. a. 17. WARNING ORDER Operation Medina 001 South Vietnam - I Corps - The Hai Lang Forest - October 1967 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST IN-GAME TIME: 0500 IGT ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: Hai Lang Forest, I Corps, South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: Jungle, Rice Paddies, Rural The 1st Cavalry Division has been redeployed into I Corps, the northern sector of South Vietnam. Over the last year, the 3rd Marines & ARVN units have ceded the majority of territory in I Corps, to the PAVN. Due to lack of manpower, several key areas have fallen into enemy hands & have begun to fester with reinforcements from the North. The 1st Cavalry Division has been deployed to the area, in an attempt to recapture the Hai Lang Forest, which has been over run by PAVN Regulars. Our intelligence suggests that the 379th Battalion have established a sprawling base camp, and have been using the forest to hide & transport large stashes of arms and munitions, to the units further south & west of them. 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry has been deployed to the Hai Lang Forest. Alpha Company has landed and begun establishing Camp Striker, on the northern end of the forest. After landing and beginning construction, the company has yet to make direct contact with the enemy; however, Camp Striker has been the target of several Rocket attacks. Intelligence & manpower is limited. While patrols in the immediate vicinity have uncovered nothing but abandoned camps & villages, we know that must be ammunition dumps in the vicinity allowing for the constant resupply & redeployment of PAVN Rocket Artillery tubes. The strikes have been coming from the west, this is all that we know. The enemy possesses great mobility & have hidden the tubes back in the depths of the forest by the time our air assets drop their ordinance on their last known position. Our objective will be to sortie outside of the Camp and sweep several nearby villages & the surrounding area in an attempt to locate 1). the PAVN Ammo dumps supplying the rockets, 2). The Rocket Tubes themselves or 3). any PAVN forces operating in the area. a. WARNING ORDER Operation Hue City 003 South Vietnam - I Corps - Hue City - Feb 1 1968 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST IN-GAME TIME: 0500 IGT ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: City, Urban, Rice Paddies, Rural Tonight we will be continuing to act as 3rd Platoon, Company A, 1/1 Marines. Our platoon captured the bridge last weekend, and attempted to enter the city to render aid to ARVN Troops under attack. On approach to the city, our platoon took heavy fire and were forced to fight our way into the suburbs. We captured the cathedral but at the cost of most of our ammunition & the engine of our single M48 Pattaon. Our sister Platoons encountered even stiffer resistance and have had to dig in in the suburbs around the city. We have been ordered to hold our foothold in the suburbs at all cost, until the Charlie Company arrives with fresh ammunition, armor, and reinforcements. At that point we will attempt to breach the city and clear out their outer defenses. Once that has been done, we will hold position and await the arrival of Bravo and Delta Companies. a. WARNING ORDER Operation Hue City 002 South Vietnam - I Corps - Hue City - Feb 1 1968 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST IN-GAME TIME: 0500 IGT ORGANIZATION: 1. REGION: South Vietnam 2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 97F ; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0415 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT 3. TERRAIN: City, Urban, Rice Paddies, Rural Amidst the chaos of 58 state capitals & dozens of American installations coming under siege in a single night, decision makers had no idea that Hue City had fallen, merely that they had lost communications with all units within the city. As American installations in the vicinity had come under attack, only a small force already operating in the field was able to move to assist & assess the situation in Hue. Two Companys of Marine Riflemen were conducting route clearance just south of Hue City & were the first American Units sent to investigate & assess the situation. Company A & Company G, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division, with ~ 3 M48 Patton Tanks were sent to investigate the situation in Hue. Their goals were to retake Highway 1 Bridge over the Truoi River, approach the city, enter the suburbs, figure out why the MACV Camp & ARVN Battalion in Hue stopped responding, whether they had fled the battle or were still fighting in the city. The only intelligence offered to the Company Commanders of Alpha & Golf Company were that 1). a PAVN force had overrun the ARVN defenders of Highway 1 Bridge, in-between the Marines & Hue. 2). that Hue City had reportedly been attacked the previous day. The Marines walking into Hue had no idea that the city had completely fallen as was now being garrisoned by ~ 4,500 determined & well equipped enemy fighters. Once they came into sight of the city, both Companies of Marines came under heavy fire from entrenched PAVN & Vietcong forces. The Companies were ordered to push into the suburbs of the city and establish footholds on the outskirts, until reinforcements from the battalion arrived. Tonight we will be to act as 3rd Platoon, Company A, 1/1 Marines. We are given 1 of the Companies 3 M41 Walker Bulldogs. Our sister Platoons will be pushing along with us into the southern suburbs of Hue capturing their own Objectives. a.
