    World War 2 "Mini-Campaign"

    Airborne School & FTX - Saturday June 2 @ 1900EST

    Operation 001 - Saturday June 9 @ 1900EST

    Operation 002 - Saturday June 16 @ 1900EST

    Operation 003 - Saturday June 23 @ 1900EST

    Operation 004 - Saturday June 30 @ 1900EST

Although the 1st Cavalry Division did not partake in Operation Overlord and in the liberation of occupied France during the Second World War, for fun's sake we will be playing the part of an American Pathfinder/Airborne Platoon in the 101st Airborne during the Invasion of Normandy in 1944.

This "Mini-Campaign" will last the duration of the Month of June. During the middle of the campaign we will hold a Poll/Vote, on what the setting of our next Summer campaign shall be. Several Choices will be available to vote on, such as a Return to the Jungles of Vietnam for the Month of July or if we will be carrying on during the Second World War, with Operation Market Garden.

I understand you all joined to be in a Vietnam Unit. This "Mini-Campaign" is not permanent.

Thanks to Cummings, We have two servers & two mod repositories, At the same time as our WW2 Campaign, we will still be holding weekly patrols/training set in Vietnam.

  5. Hey Guys,

So if you're new to the 1st Cavalry, "Patrols" are slang for "fun ops" or "Mini ops" or "Side Ops". Essentially they're just ad hoc operations in ArmA meant to be fun and out of the ordinary to shake things up from our usual Saturday Operations. We often play as other nation's armed forces, even playing as the Viet Cong & North Vietnamese Army from time to time. Anyone is welcome to Zeus this operations, all you have to do, is notify Kauffman a few days in advance.

So anyway, we're looking to change up the patrol schedule for the summer to maximize the number of people who are able to attend these things.

With the addition of our Second Mod Repository & all these World War 2 mods, there will be tons of new unexplored content and a plethora of mission making material.

I think with all this new content, etc. We should add another weekly patrol to our schedule again.

Is there a more optimal Time or Day that our members could attend, for your new summer hours?

    Current Patrol Schedule:

Tuesday 1900 Eastern Standard Time     -   Participants Choice of UNSUNG Vietnam or World War 2

    Suggested Days

Thursday 1900 Eastern Standard Time   -    Dedicated World War 2 Patrol

Friday 1900 Eastern Standard Time   -     Dedicated World War 2 Patrol

Sunday 1500 Eastern Standard Time    -     Dedicated World War 2 Patrol

If you select Option #4, Please comment with a "write in" time/day that would work better for you.

    Thanks,

    Kauffman

    Operation Comanche 002

    SITUATION

    TIME 12MAY18 @ 1900 EST (1730 IGT)

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

After the events of last week, we will be decending from OP Hawk to survey the village, make a battle damage assessment. You are to assist any local villagers who were injured as a result of fighting, you are to attempt to locate any remaining enemy forces. Continue to conduct patrols on the highway and trails. Several convoy's will be en route from Camp Airborne to Fire Support Base Sarge. You are to sweep the roads of mines around the bridge and the crossroads of Highway 14 and Route 9.

Friendly convoys will radio to Mako 1-6, when enroute, so that Mako 1-6 may properly advise his elements in the field. If any convoys are ambushed, 1st Platoon will be the closest unit, and will be required to assist.

This campaign is based off of the book, "Platoon Leader" by James McDonough. Due to the nature of this assignment, Real Infantry platoons protecting strategic hamlets often ran under half capacity. Constantly taking attrition from tripwires, infantry platoons of 40 men, were often running from somewhere between 15-20. Along with this, these Infantry platoons were miles away from any other U.S. Force, and due to the ineffectiveness of the Rough Puffs and their refusal to patrol, Infantry platoons with this assignment often found themselves out numbered tremendously, being only able to rely on themselves and a few helicopters.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Local Guerrilla band operating out of their homes and villages.

    2. The Da Krong Valley sits on along the North/South DMZ. Possible PAVN incursions into the Valley.

    3. VC Guerrilla's mine the trails and roads multiple times a day. Incredibly high concentration of Traps in this valley. Expect actual minefields as well.

    4. Substantial light AA presence to the southwest of the map.

    b. Friendly Forces

    1. 1st Platoon, Golf Company, 148th Battalion Popular Force "Rough Puffs"
    2. Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment
    3. Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment

    c. 1970s - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

    1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
    2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
    3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.

    MISSION

1st Platoon is tasked with setting up at OP Hawk, which overlooks the strategic Hamlet of Ta Lieng. The Ultimate goal and objective of our platoon is to protect the village, and keep it from either being destroyed or falling completely under communist control.

1st Platoon will then alternate sections and send out frequent foot patrols to assess the damage of the battle, assist local's (Possibly call in the helicopters to drop off crates of humanitarian aid), Patrols will also seek to locate any enemies in the vicinity. There will be clues pointing towards their location. 1st Platoon will then patrol the Highway, clear it of mines, providing security for supply convoys heading for FSB Sarge.

We will be transitioning back into a conventional platoon by the end of this campaign. Op Ords will be written by Platoon Lead, however tactical decisions will be left to the NCO IC, on the ground.

SSG C. Mandingo is current the Non-Commissioned Officer In-Command (NCO IC).

    Notes from Commander:

    • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 40.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
    • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
    • You will be operating in a civilian populated area, any calls for fire within 600 Meters of a Village will need special authorization from Commanding Officer.
    • Conduct multiple quick and short patrols. We're trying to have each section conduct several, so do not waste time.
    • While on patrol if you come under fire radio back to the OP and request support.
    • On Map, Foot Trails are marked in Black, Main Supply Route Marked in Blue, Secondary Roads marked in Green.
    • (We will run as two seperate sections ONLY if there are 10+ Infantrymen on the Ground, If there are 9 or Below, run as a single section.)

    SITUATION

    TIME 7APR18 @ 1900 EST (1730 IGT)

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

We are being deployed to Quang Tri Province, the most Northern Province of South Vietnam, which borders the Demilitarized Zone with North Vietnam. This province has seen incredibly fierce fighting. Our main concern is with locals who've taken up arms against the RVN, however over the Years the Quang Tri Province has been the site where large PAVN forces cross the DMZ, surround small American encampments, and destroy them with superior numbers to gain a quick victory, then retreat back across the DMZ. We will not only be taking part in the Strategic Hamlet Program, by protecting the Village of Ta Lieng, but we will also be acting as a Listening Post for Camp Airborne, for any sizable PAVN Force that might sweep through the area looking to overrun an American Airbase.

The Strategic Hamlet of Ta Lieng is an artificial village. To boost the legitimacy of the Republic of Vietnam & to protect its people in the countryside from the Viet Cong, the RVN forced the peasants in the valley to move to a single fortified and concentrated village that they constructed, named Ta Lieng; where they could be guarded and watched over by a small garrison of ARVN Militia, known as the Popular Force, (Called "Rough Puffs" by U.S. GI's), and by a Platoon of American GI's. This is how the United States conducted its counter insurgency in Vietnam. By watching the villagers in these hamlets for suspicious activity, by frequently paroling to disrupt enemy movements, and by constantly diffusing mines/traps set along major highways.

Due to this valley's close proximity to the North Vietnamese Border, it is often the site of Air Engagements. MiGs are frequently scrambled to intercept American Bombers, which fly out from Camp Airborne, who are attempting to interdict North Vietnamese Airspace.

This campaign is based off of the book, "Platoon Leader" by James McDonough. Due to the nature of this assignment, Real Infantry platoons protecting strategic hamlets often ran under half capacity. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    SITUATION

    TIME 7APR18 @ 1900 EST (1730 IGT)

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

After last weeks mission, Camp Pitt was constructed in in between Camp Necessity & Emery. As a result Bravo Company has been redeployed to pull security for the Camp. All companies are significantly undermanned, and are unable to properly patrol Highway 19, which connects all Camps, or any of the surrounding Villages.

A joint contingent of PAVN and VC Troops have been spotted moving into the Fishhook (Our Map). They have retaken several positions which we had cleared early in the Month, and are now operating on the western bank of the Mekong River. 1st Platoon will be setting up an Observation Post over-watching the only bridge across the MeKong, and will act as an early warning sign for Camp Emery.

Before Bravo Company, 1/11th ARVN pulled out to Camp Pitt, they had begun clearing brush and dropping agent orange on the surrounding hill sides, in preparations of constructing a permanent OP on Hill 139, overlooking Phoum Village.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Joint Force of PAVN/VC Fighters have reinforced the battered remains of 275th VC Regiment.

    2. Viet Cong Forces have moved Rocket Artillery and Mortars into the Area and regularly barrage Camp Emery.

    3. We believe of Company of the 275th, are operating in the vacinity of Hill 135 and the Phoum Village.

    4. With the lack of friendly patrols in the Villages and Highways, we suspect VC Forces are freely moving men and supplies across the River as well as mining the Highway regularly.

    5. There is a heavy AA Presence in the South of Phoum Village, along the river, 71st A.H.C. needs to strictly abide by their SOPs.

    b. Friendly Forces

    1. Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 11th ARVN Infantry Regiment
    2. Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 11th ARVN Infantry Regiment

    MISSION

1st Platoon is tasked with setting up an Observation Post, in the vacinity of Phoum Village.

This will be a joint op, lead by 1-1 this week. We will alternate which section is leading the joint operations.

SSG C. Mandingo will write one Op Ord for the whole platoon to follow.

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

After last weeks mission, we held OP Pyle from a sizable enemy force which had crossed up stream. We also took heavy fire from the west across the river, we also captured a VC prisoner who was able to shed some light on the location of the COSVN HQ. According to him, runners with orders were coming down the creek bed which runs east to west from Phoumi Moattonle to deeper into the Jungle. Based upon our limited knowledge of the area, we believe the COSVN HQ is lurking a few kilometers to the west of the river deep within the Jungle.

This week, 1st Platoon will cross the river, sweep and clear all the villages which we were taking fire from, then will recon the creek bed which our prisoner described in his interrogation. 1st Platoon will search for any strategic assets found in the vicinity of the creek bed or any branching trails from the creek bed.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Last week we took heavy machine gun, rocket, and mortar fire from across the River in the villages of Phoumi Moattonle

    2. Expect roaming patrols and possible ambushes along the trail.

    3. Viet Cong Forces will be well equipt, with AK-47s, RPDs, and RPGs.

    Notes from Commander:

    • 71st Company has several other objectives, other than assisting Mako 1-6.
    • 71st A.H.C. must transport supplies and manpower to Camp Pitt in order to complete construction of the Camp so that infantry may spawn there in future operations.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    SITUATION

    TIME 7APR18 @ 1900 EST (1730 IGT)

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

After last weeks mission, we pushed deep into enemy territory to hunt for evidence of the COSVN HQ; however we failed to find any concrete evidence of the headquarters whereabouts. However we did take a Cambodian Villager prisoner, and after extensive interrogation, it would appear he knew the location of a local VC hideout. The job of neutralizing it and the AA in the area has been tasked to Bravo Company.

1st Platoon's objectives this week are to move back to Camp Necessity's Area of Operation. 1st Platoon will relieve a small section of Seamen which have been garrisoning a small Observation Post called, OP Pyle. OP Pyle over looks the Mekong River and several villages, all with high VC activity. OP Pyle reportedly takes regular Mortar, Machine Gun, and Sniper fire from across the River. VC Sappers frequently cross the river, infiltrate the wire around OP Pyle and lob grenades into the bunkers.

We believe VC forces are moving men and supplies across the river to our eastern bank, in an attempt to launch an assault on our base of Operations at Camp Necessity. If the VC are attempting an assault to overrun Camp Necessity and Camp Russel they will have to overrun OP Pyle first. 1st Platoon is to dig in and not let that happen.

1st Platoon's objectives are to relieve a squad of US Navy Riverine Patrol men from TF-116. 1st Platoon will then reinforce the defenses, and will then begin sending out small patrols up to a maximum of a Kilometer.

Two areas of interest to patrol frequently to disrupt enemy movements are:

    1. A small creek bed 700 Meters to the Northwest of OP Pyle. The creek runs southwest to northeast, from the Mekong river to Highway 19. Light enemy movements through the creek. 1st Platoon could set up a possible ambush.

    1. Highway 19 in between OP Pyle, Camp Necessity, & Camp Russel. The VC mine the crossroads between all three positions multiple times a day, making travel by truck/jeep between the camps fairly dangerous. 1st Platoon is to clear the cross roads of any mines periodically.

Due to lack of manpower throughout the "Fishhook Sector" Camp Russel has stopped sending out Patrols, and the patrols sent from Camp Necessity don't go out any further than the tree line surrounding the runway. You will not run into any other friendly units along the creek bed or crossroads of Highway 19.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Viet Cong Forces have been spotted throughout the villages lining the Mekong River to the west of OP Pyle.

    2. Viet Cong Forces periodically mine the crossroads of highway 19 between OP Pyle/Russel/Necessity.

    3. Viet Cong Forces will be well equipt, with AK-47s, RPDs, and RPGs.

    4. Expect occasional sappers, snipers, mortar attacks.

    5. If communist forces are attempting to assault Camp Necessity, they will try to overrun OP Pyle first.

    6. If they successfully overrun OP Pyle, 1st Platoon will defend Camp Necessity upon respawn.

    b. Friendly Forces

    1. Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division
    2. Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division

    MISSION

1st Platoon is tasked with capturing Hill 135 and Hill 139.

This will be a joint op, lead by 1-1 this week. We will alternate which section is leading the joint operations.

SSG C. Mandingo will write one Op Ord for the whole platoon to follow.

    • 71st Co. must transport supplies and manpower to FOB Emery in order to complete construction of the FOB so that infantry may spawn there in future operations.
    • 71st Co. Also may be asked to run resupply and CAS for Charlie Company who is fighting in the field.
    • Due to enemy presence Highway 19 has been closed after dark. All supplies must be airlifted into OP Pyle.
