  4. WARNING ORDER Mountain Reach 002 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITUATION TIME 17FEB18 @ 1900 EST (1200 IGT) WEATHER: 32F (0C); Overcast, Chance of Showers; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT Afghan National Army & Afghan National Police forces have ceased all patrol activity outside of the main Kunar River Valley to our North; By doing this the ANA & ANP have allowed themselves to be trapped essentially, and their few remaining FOBs have been receiving accurate indirectly fire from the Mountains to the South, daily. To the Northwest, along the Kunar River, Taliban Fighters have been car bombing ANP Checkpoints by Day, and conducting mass wave attacks on ANP Outposts by Night. To the Northeast, along the Kunar River, the situation is much of the same, however Afghan National Army Bases and Checkpoints often take indirect fire from Across the Pakistani Border all times during the day, and are unable to retaliate; They also deal with an incredible amount of roadside improvised Explosive devices which neutralize patrols, along with mass wave attacks by night. Now that we have a foothold and have routed out many of the conventional established Taliban camps, many taliban fighters have taken to the mountains or have blended in with the civilian population. We are to start our slow drive north towards the main river valley, and will flush out the guerrilla fighters who have mixed in with the population in these two "off shoot" valleys to the South of Kunar Valley Proper. a. Enemy Disposition Taliban Forces are numbered to be above battalion strength in the entire Kunar Valley; We suspect there is a over a platoon-sized element + of light infantry fighters operating in each valley; ANP report frequent car bombings in 1-1's AO. Civilian reports of Taliban Hardpoints within several villages in 1-2's AO; Reports of Mortar teams moving rapidly, shelling ANP Positions to the North, in both team's AO. b. Friendly Forces Alpha Company, 13th 'Kunar' Battalion, Afghan National Army Afghan National Police, Kunar Province Border Guard. c. Rules of Engagement On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions: Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonble certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded. Do not target or strike any Hospitals, Mosques, Churches, Shrines, or Schools except in self-defense to protect yourself, your unit, friendly forces, and designated persons or property under your protection/control. Do not fire into civilian populated areas or buildings unless the enemy is using them for military purposes or if necessary for your self-defense; Minimize collateral damage. Do not fire at any target, Paramilitary or Pakistani Regular, regardless of hostile intent or incoming fire, if it resides across the Pakistani Border. Inform your commander and disengage. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ MISSION 1st Platoon is tasked with flushing out the remaining Taliban forces operating in each respective valley, who went to ground after last weeks raids on their Encampments.
