    ORGANIZATION:

    3. TERRAIN: Farmland, Spruce Forests, Villages

As a result of the successful capture of the enemy officer Colonel Osipov during 1st Platoons last operation we have gained intel on an enemy stronghold and supply point to the North of Rosche. Allied forces have now moved no mans land further towards some key enemy occupied villages and towns. However, to ensure this push continues 1st Platoon are tasked with causing havoc behind enemy lines. From the intel gathered we have located a town called Testorf, this town is heavily defended with no routes in or out, every road around the village is barricaded by the enemy so a vehicle assault is not possible. Within the town lay a vehicle and resupply depot, it is also believed that there is a communications center in the town.

The disruption to enemy supply lines and communications would greatly benefit the aim of NATO forces allowing for a further push in from the South without risk of a counter attack from the North.

    PHASE I - Insertion

    a. At 0230 Zulu Time, 1st Platoon will be flown to LZ Lazio.

    b. Once on the ground, 1st Platoon will move towards RP 2.

    c. After arriving at RP 2, 1st Squad will move to OP 2, 2nd Squad will move to OP 1 & observe the objective.

    d. 1st Squad will then move north and place SLAM mines, along the possible routes of advance of the enemy quick reaction force.

    e. 1st Squad will move back to RP 2, and both teams will prepare to infiltrate the town.

    HP6Zll4.jpg

    PHASE II - Assault

    b. After arriving at RP 3, 1st Squad will establish eyes on OBJ Norwich.

    c. 2nd Squad will prepare to assault the checkpoint from the rear & destroy the active BTR.

    d. Once engaged, 1st Squad will move to secure OBJ Norwich & 2nd Squad will move to secure the checkpoint.

    e. Both Squads will then destroy respectively the BTR & Communications Equipment then move towards OBJ Newcastle together.

    Om6VL0m.jpg

    PHASE III - Extraction

    a. If Testorf is heavily occupied, due to 1st Platoon's lack of manpower, it will be impossible to clear all the structures or secure the entire town in time before QRF arrives. In this scenario 1st Platoon will flee after neutralizing both objectives. 1st Platoon will move to one of the three LZ's to the south and call for extraction.

    b. If Testorf is only lightly occupied, 1st Platoon may have enough manpower to secure the town in time to prepare to ambush the enemy's quick reaction force. In this scenario, 1st Squad will set up on the east side of Town while, 1-2 takes the west side of town and will prepare to ambush enemy QRF. After an initial ambush, 1st Platoon will pull back south to LZ Napoli for extraction.

    **Special Instructions**

    3. TERRAIN: Farmland, Spruce Forests

Following 1st Platoon's successful defense of Nestau, friendly armored and mechanized forces swarmed into the AO, which ultimately led to the recapture of several strategically relevant towns in the region. With the majority of the southern part of the AO recaptured, 1st Platoon has been re-tasked with assisting our partner forces in the north. The northern front has remained relatively stagnant over the past four weeks. However a recent intelligence finding suggests that a senior Soviet intelligence officer, Colonel Boris Osipov, plans to visit the town of Oetzen within the next 48 hours. While the exact reason for the Colonel's visit is unknown, it suggests that Russian forces in the northern half of the AO have grown more comfortable with their force movements.

In an attempt to exploit the Soviet's deteriorating situational awareness, 1st Platoon has been tasked with capturing Colonel Osipov. Intelligence suggests that the Colonel plans to depart from the town of Schwemelitz in the dead of night on 6 November and make his way across the country side surveying several forward operating positions. As indicated in the images below, the Colonel plans to move through several towns including Bruchwedel, Testorf, Dormte, and ultimately Oetzen. 1st Platoon is to insert behind enemy lines, prepare to ambush and capture the Colonel, and evade enemy capture following the capture of Colonel Osipov. The successful capture of Colonel Osipov would result in a significant breakthrough on the intelligence front for our forces.

    1. SITUATION:

On Friday, October 15th, a UH-60 Blackhawk was shot down by a MANPAD somewhere near the towns of Nestau and Batensen after extracting a reconnaissance unit. UAV feeds suggest some aircrew members may have survived the crash after viewing Soviet personnel loading two incapacitated Americans into vehicles and driving into the town of Batensen. It is believed the aircrew members are being held captive and treated for their wounds in the town before being transported further behind enemy lines.

Additionally, Intelligence indicates the presence of several artillery emplacements just outside the town, which stand as a substantial threat to friendly forces back on the front. If possible following the security of the aircrew members, 1st Platoon is to destroy these emplacements and extract.

Hundreds of millions of tons of supplies are being transported along the Ho Chi Minh trail, through NVA occupied Laos & Cambodia.

As the main American ground presence winds down, MACV-SOG's operations to disrupt the enemy in their rear operating areas are intensified; however, the NVA occupy the areas along the Ho Chi Minh trail in great numbers. MACV-SOG Recon teams of 10 men are dropped into "target boxes" with several thousand North Vietnamese regulars in an attempt to disrupt their operations in the rear. Special Elite "Anti-Reconnaissance" battalions have been assembled from Montagnard's and hardcore NVA NCO's, who's sole purpose is to track and pin down MACV-SOG Reconnaissance teams and then send in a battalion of NVA regulars to surround and finish off the enemy.

Since MACV-SOG team's were often outnumbered 100 to 1, their survival relied on the expertise of their indigenous Montagnard "strikers" to guide them to defendable positions such as hilltops, cliffs, old abandoned fire support bases, etc. as well as the brave pilots of the US Navy and Airforce that often were called in to provide close air support for trapped recon teams on the ground.

For this campaign, we will be playing the part of two MACV-SOG Recon teams, who will be given tasks in three "Target Boxes" DM-01 (Cambodia), DM-08 (Laos), and DM-09 (North Vietnam). Each target box is home to an NVA Regimental headquarters that is operating and overseeing the movement of supplies down the Ho Chi Minh trail. To complete this campaign, we will have to locate and destroy all three NVA Regimental Headquarters in order to clear the target box. Detailed information about the Target boxes can be found below. A base line of intelligence has been provided, and as Recon teams conduct missions in the target box they will gather more information and fill the files with further details which will provide for future missions & objectives from Saigon.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Massive disposition of North Vietnamese Regulars

      1. Small Anti-recon teams hunting for American Recon Teams

      2. Large Units of PAVN Regulars acting as quick reaction forces

      3. Static Anti-Air

      4. Supply and Logistics units operating in the area

    b. Friendly Disposition

    1. None

    c. 1970s - Rules of Engagement

    1. Use of any force necessary is authorized within the target boxes.

    Notes from Commander:

    • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
    • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
    • Expect the enemy to utilize grenades when in close combat.
    • Bring this in your kit         ITEM - Zippo        if you want to burn the huts
    • When burning a hut make sure to stand back, and let one person burn the hut, as to avoid friendly fire.

Where: Operation Server #1, Cam Lao Nam

What: 11B AIT - 1st Platoon will be practicing with the M60 (Phase Red), learning how to operate and utilize claymore mines (Phase Blue), sitting through a combat lifesaver course (Phase Green), as well as a basic course on short range radios (Phase Yellow), then we'll discuss and practice bounding as well as crossing danger areas (Phase White), and lastly we will be refining our ability to maneuver in various formations & conduct Battle Drill 1 Alpha (Phase Purple).

    Uniform: Early War Kits (1965-1966)

Phase Red: The first phase of our training will be held at the shooting range. 1st Platoon will split up into gun teams and practice the basics of gunnery with the M60. Eventually we will merge gun teams together to practice talking guns. Lastly we'll talk about reconnaissance by fire & how to conduct a mad minute.

Phase BlueThe second phase of our training will focus on the claymore mine. This portion of the training will be very brief. Each member of the platoon will learn how to safely place and denotate a claymore mine, and then will move onto to our classroom CLS Course.

Phase Green: The third phase of our training will consist of a classroom instruction on the basics of the ace medical system. How to stabilize and assist medics with injured and unconscious personnel.

Phase Yellow: The fourth phase of our training will consist of a basic tutorial of TFAR. Going over the AN/PRC 152, we will learn how to set assign frequencies to different channels, and then how to monitor and transmit over your primary and additional channel.

Phase White: For the fifth stage of our training we'll practice the various methods of bounding & then touch on how to safely cross a danger area.

Phase Purple: Lastly 1st Platoon will move into the hills southeast of the firing range and practice maneuvering in six formations, the Wedge, the File, the Line, the T formation, the staggered column, and lastly the squad column. From there the platoon will move to the hills just outside of the airfield, and go over the squad assault. Starting with an explanation of base of fire, shifting fire, bounding, and clearing the enemy out of a position.
