    1. SITUATION:

On October 18th, ODA Teams 555 and 595, along with Air Force Combat Controllers were airlifted via Chinook from an airbase in Uzbekistan across the Hindu Kush mountain range into Afghanistan to link up with the CIA and Northern Alliance fighters. In the weeks following, the ODAs, fighting along side their Northern Alliance counterparts, captured several key cities from the Taliban, establishing a stronger foothold in the region. US Conventional forces, as well as more special operations forces began pouring into the country and supporting the invasion effort, expediting the downfall of the Taliban.

    1. SITUATION:

Generals Eisenhower, MacArthur, and Field Marshall Mannerheim met recently and decided that 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 1/7th Cavalry is to be redeployed from Northern Finland over to the Pacific theater, immediately. We will be coming ashore as part of the first wave of the amphibious assault on the Northern Tip of Peleliu. We expect the Japanese to be unprepared and there to be little resistance. The captain has assured me that the island will be ours within four days, if everyone does their job. See you on the beach.

    IN-GAME TIME: 1200 IGT

    ORGANIZATION:

    1. REGION: Quang Tri Province, I Corps,  South Vietnam

    2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 112F (32C); Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0515 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

    3. TERRAIN: Mountainous, Triple Layer Canopy, Large River Valleys

In May 1968 U.S. replacements surge into Vietnam to fill the shoes of the 24,000 US Casualties in the aftermath of the Tet Offensive. Search and Destroy operations are launched all across the countryside, in an attempt to retake lost ground, root the enemy's supplies out of their holes, and destroy what remains of the Viet Cong in South Vietnam. After assisting US Marines with their efforts around Hue City, the 1/7th Cav is being sent back to the 1st Cavalry Divisions base area in the Da Krong Valley. While the majority of the Cavalry troopers were deployed across I. Corps over the past four months, the enemy has reoccupied the areas that the 1st Cavalry had been forced to abandoned. An unknown Viet Cong Battalion augmented with a company of elite sappers & anti-air contingent have fortified the valley, and control the mountains on the eastern bank of the Song Thach River as well as the southern portion of the valley where Camp Sarge proudly used to sit.

Camp Savage, the battalion's primary airstrip has been manned by a skeleton crew since the battalion left during Tet; Due to 1/7th CAV's inability to mount regular patrols sweeping the surrounding mountain sides, Camp Savage receives indirect fire around the clock. In addition to the IDF, snipers regularly pick off any members of base security that are stupid enough to raise their heads above their foxholes, and sapper's crawl through the wire every night, tossing satchels and grenades into manned bunkers. Only a contingent of roughly 30 men, mainly comprised of inexperienced rear echelon troops maintain base security. The majority of aircraft stationed there have been destroyed, the remaining birds and aircrews have been evacuated to 2/7th Battalion's base camp further north. Other than base security, all that remains is the remnants of the supply company, and a battery of 155mm howitzers running counter battery operations & providing a shield for the signal platoon stationed at radio relay vandergrift.

While evacuating the battalion surgeon and his patients, 2nd Platoon, 71st AHC reported taking copious amounts of 51. caliber anti-air craft fire from the hills east of Song Thach's River & Hill 176. A no fly zone has been established accordingly.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Battalion of Viet Cong Guerrillas

      1. ~400 Viet Cong irregulars spread across the hills of the valley.

      2. Company of Elite Sappers have been spotted operating in the area.

      3. Anti-Air emplacements located on on the hilltops east of the Song Thach River & South of Hill 176

    2. Possible Enemy action

      1.  Expect Sapper attacks on Camp Sarge & Traps in surrounding area.

      2.  Expect enemy to occupy many of the forested hills, rather than the villages and open areas.

    c. 1960s - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

    1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
    2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.

    2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 112F (32C); Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0515 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

    3. TERRAIN: Open, rolling hills, sparse grass land

January 30th, 1968, an all out combined PAVN and Viet Cong assault on South Vietnam begins without warning. 36, out of the 44 state capitals were assaulted, including the capital of Saigon. Viet Cong hit squads had infiltrated the cities weeks before, and on the night of January 30th, they sprang into action, detonating satchel charges planted fuel depots, ammo dumps; they launched suicide attacks with massive quantities of explosives on unsuspecting US Soldiers sleeping in their barracks, and lastly they carried out coordinated hits on the few competent South Vietnamese Officers that were left, murdering both them and their families.

Once this initial stage was complete, massive assaults from some 750,000 communist soldiers began all across the nation. One such location that was captured rather swiftly was the ancient fortress of Hue City, which stood as Vietnam's capital for two hundred years. After the Viet Cong infiltrators captured the city with ease, massive amounts of troops began moving in to occupy and fortify the already naturally defended city, which was surrounded by strategic canals, and two hundred year old stone walls. PAVN forces began clearing the highways leading to the city, and shuttling in more men and supplies. Soon however, a combined force of US Marines, and ARVN Infantry were mustered to attempt a counter attack to retake the city. A deadly battle began, characterized by the fighting that occurred slowly from house to house.

US Marines & ARVN Infantry, were making little progress on their own. In need of assistance, the 1st Cavalry Division was called to maneuver around the enemy at Hue City, and halt the flow of supplies and men into Hue City from the South. The PAVN will not be expecting an attack from their rear. 1st Platoon's objectives will be to move rapidly, locate the enemies supply base, artillery, SAMs, and silence them. From there 1st Platoon will move to secure the southern side of the bridge leading into Hue from Highway 1.

    3. Possible Enemy action

      1.  Expect enemy to react to your helicopters.

      2.  Expect motorized quick reaction forces.

    c. 1960s - Rules of Engagement

    1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
    2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.

    1. SITUATION:

After extended long range air reconnaissance and close reconnaissance by MACV-SOG it has developed that a Prison Camp held by the NVA is holding multiple US POW's. The camp is heavily defended and has multiple defensive units. There is also a QRF and Reinforcements within 15 minutes of the prison camp, they have been seen to do practice runs on reaction times and have well thought out patrol and infil routes. It is not known to exact location in the camp where the POW's are been held, but recon last week spotted a heavy NVA presence and movement of US POW's around the camp. NVA troops are known to use Route 305 as the infil and exfil route to the camp. This is heavily defended with checkpoints on either side.

1st Platoon's job will be to covertly insert into the prison camp, rescue our POW's and exfil. A small element of 1 Platoon should also be ready to defend the exfil party from the QRF forces, or take the fight to the QRF and disable them before they can react to the rescue of our POW's.

Rattler Elements will be tasked with inserting & supporting 1st Platoon, while additionally providing rescue capabilities, medevac and resupply if needed. CAS may also be required to dampen the QRF and Reinforcements.

    SITUATION

    OPERATION TIME: 1900 EST

    IN-GAME TIME: 0640 IGT

    ORGANIZATION:

    1. REGION: Pleiku Province, II Corps,  South Vietnam

    2. WEATHER: Clear Skies; 112F (32C); Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0515 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

    3. TERRAIN: Mountainous, Double Canopy Rain Forest

After the attack on Patrol Base Bastion, the RVN Deserters have retreated to the western river valley. 1st Platoon captured a prisoner the morning after the attack who informed us that the RVN deserters have made contact & are operating with a communist battalion that has moved into the valley. Supposedly there is a base camp in close proximity to the RVN deserters, however the location is unknown. Additionally we were warned by locals that the RVN are prepared for a counter attack, have dug-in heavily, and have mined several of clearings in the jungle, which they presume we could use as landing zones. OBJ Orsis, is one such clearing. A prime landing zone for our forces, however the French Catholic Missionary has warned us that the old french mission has been converted into a fortress, with anti-air craft emplacements clearing covering the landing zone.

1st Platoon's job will be to insert at LZ Colt, then move to clear the RVN deserters off of OBJ Tula & OBJ Kalashnikov. Additionally 1st Platoon will attempt to take prisoners & search for any intel which might lead us to the communist force's base camp in the valley. Once found, 1st Platoon will move to assault the camp, then extract.

Rattler Elements will be tasked with inserting & supporting 1st Platoon, while additionally tasked with leveling OBJ Orsis from the air with rotary & fixed wing assets.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Heavy  Disposition of RVN Police deserters.

      1. American mechanized vehicles

      2. Heavy Machine Gun & Lightweight high-angle-of-fire weapons

    2. National Liberation Front or People's Army of North Vietnam

      1. Unit & Disposition unknown

    3. Possible Enemy action

      1.  Expect to be met at the landing zone by hostile forces

      2.  Expect communist forces to react & assist RVN Police forces defending OBJ Tula & Kalashnikov

      3.  Expect to see American made military equipment & machinery

    c. 1970s - Rules of Engagement

    3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.

    Notes from Commander:

    • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
    • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
    • Expect the enemy to utilize grenades when in close combat.

    1. SITUATION:

The Prei Mei Valley sitting in the Pleiku highlands was long held stable & PAVN-free by the 173rd Airborne, however in accordance with President Nixon's Policy of Vietnamization, American forces were slowly withdrawn from the valley and replaced by inexperienced RVN Police Conscripts. Troung Nguyen, a prominent politician from Saigon, was promoted to the rank of Colonel sent to oversee the defense of the valley. Given state of the art equipment to form an Armored Cavalry Company, but not enough soldiers, Colonel Nguyen conscripted many locals from the valley to take the defense of the valley into their own hands. Colonel Nguyen's headquarters are based out of the Phoum Srei. As of 1900 hours, Colonel Nguyen & his force have failed to check in four times.

1st Platoon, A. Company, 1/7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division is being sent to into the village to establish contact with Col Nguyen & his RVN Police Forces in the valley & assist them in their efforts to protect the village.

From there 1st Platoon will secure the 173rd's old Patrol Base (PB Bastion) & observe the village of Phoum Srei. After assessing the situation, if the village is controlled by hostile forces, 1st Platoon will move to assault & clear the village; If the village appears secure, 2nd Squad will remain on overwatch as 1st Squad moves west and follows Phase Line (PL) Red to the village. 1st Squad will speak to local Notables at the French Catholic Mission, Colonel Nguyen's Tax office, & attempt to reestablish contact with Colonel Nguyen himself at the RVNPF compound. Once reestablishing contact with RVN Police Forces, 1st Platoon will render assistance in their efforts to police the valley. In addition to these tasks, 1st Platoon is also tasked with bringing PB Bastion back up to operation standards. Rattler Elements will slingload in 1 x M113 Engineering APC to assist 2nd squad with their efforts to clear the overgrown Patrol Base.
