  1. WARNING ORDER

    Operation Crazy Horse 001

    Phuoc Tou - South Vietnam

    SITUATION

    TIME: September 14th, 1966 @ 1900 EST (0600 ZUL)

WEATHER: 112F (44C); Clear; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

The 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment has been deployed to Phuoc Toy Province to provide security for friendly airbases operating the area. 1st Cavalry will attempt to route out the guerrilla forces which have been conducting constant rocket/mortar attacks on Nui Dat Airbase.

ARVN Forces had originally attempted to pacify the surrounding country side, however their efforts backfired and have turned the local population against the U.S. Backed South Vietnamese Government. We now believe that the communist guerrilla's have near total control of the rural villages, and have already begun to infiltrate the larger cities of Phuoc Toy province launching a massive recruitment campaign for a large scale offensive to come.

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

    2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
    3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.

    Notes from Commander:

    • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
    • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
    • Be sure not to stray too far off the planned & assigned path, due to the high probability of undiscovered minefields.
    • Be sure to stay within 1st Platoon's area of operation, venturing off course into 2nd or 3rd Platoon's AO could result in blue on blue.

Current Update on the Persian Gulf:

The Iranians have a strong foothold along the Persian Gulf coast, and have continued to push through Oman and deep into Saudi Arabia.

Iranian Forces have halted their advance into Iraq and have set up strong defensive positions along the Tigris and Euphrates river, believing that our main push would come through Baghdad. Coalition forces have successfully feinted an assault on Baghdad, and have diverted the majority of their forces south to push for Kuwait City, cutting off Iranian forces on the southern coast of the Gulf. Additionally another prong has been launched into Iran itself after exploiting the ongoing conflict with Kurdish Forces.

The 1st Cavalry Division, along with several other Coalition units are in the process of penetrating the Zagros Mountains, and intend to come out the other side ready to strike Tehran itself. Iranian forces are few in our sector, however they are able to utilize the large Zagros mountains and have fortified the major passes, and will fight for every inch of ground.

According to Israeli intelligence which has been corroborated with British Intelligence, it was the Iranian's intentions all along to provoke an incident with Iraqi border forces, in order to gain justifications for their all out offensive.

Current Update on the Persian Gulf:

The Iranians have launched a successful invasion of the Persian gulf states, closing the straits of Hormuz, and in turn, Iran now controls 58% of the World's Oil Reserves.

In the wake of this, the UN Security Council unanimously approved the use of force to assist the gulf states of Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UEA, and Oman, and immediately an international fleet was sent to keep the gulf from being captured. Several US, British, and French Vessels were trapped within the Persian Gulf, while the Majority of the battle fleet has formed a blockade and begun a rigorous bombing campaign hitting strategic Iranian Positions.

In addition, Coalition ground forces have been struggling to reach the front due to the logistical nightmare & communications nightmare caused as a result of the surprise assault and planned assassinations of many of the Gulf State Shah's. Egypt & Jordan are being used as the key basing areas for UN Forces entering the theater, however Israeli ports and airfields have remained closed to coalition troops in order to gain the trust and assistance of over Middle Eastern States, further complicating the logistical nightmare.

US Forces that were presently stationed in Bahrain and Qatar were overran within the first thirty-six hours of fighting; A large majority of the US Forces stationed in Kuwait and Oman strategically withdrew and were able to assist Saudi Forces in the defense of Riyadh, and continuing the defense of Northern Oman.

The Situation in Iraq is much more complicated. With a limited US Force stationed in Ramadi, and our position 200 KM East of Mosul, on the Iraqi-Iranian-Turkish Border. Iraqi Government Forces were over run all across the line, allowing the Iranians to Seize both the Tigris, and up the eastern side of the Euphrates. The Iraqi army has completely collapsed along with their puppet government, which has been replaced with direct Iranian control. A large majority of the population has flocked to the Iranian cause and formed large Shia militias. Southern Iraq has fallen while the predominantly Kurdish, Northern Iraq has held strong during the Iranian onslaught.

As of yesterday Morning, US Forces have recaptured the Iraqi city of Kakuk, and began the fight for Bagdad. The Iranian forces in the north have ceased their assault into Iraq, believing us to be too weak to mount and offensive, Iranian forces have moved south to reinforce their position along the Euphrates. In addition, Turkey has yet to lend any assistance to Coalition forces, and are currently bogged down engaging the same Kurdish Militias that have offered us their support. Relying on Turkish neutrality and believing our major offensive thrust to come through Baghdad & believing our northern Flank to be exhausted, we believe that the Iranians only have a token force guarding the passes into Zagros Mountains.

A small but specialized Iranian force has been left to garrison our sector, with the majority of OpFor ground forces being made up of Iraqi Shia Militas. Our Objective today will be to launch an offensive, pushing the Iranians out Northern Iraq, in preparation for an invasion of Northern Iran itself.

Last week Iranian forces captured Route Diamond, the MSR running through our sector, in addition to several key oil refineries in the Region. Over the past week, Iranian forces have set up several hardpoints to defend their positions on this route. Our Objectives today will include, recapturing the Masbah and Doura Oil Refineries, clearing, and reopening the northern half of Route Diamond, to allow for Coalition forces to travel north in preparation for our invasion of Iran proper.

Other Coalition Forces have joined the fray, and will be engaging other objectives within our sector. In addition Civilians have been evacuated from the villages along Route Diamond.

Last weekend we successfully routed the German troops held in their festung. From there we pushed south driving towards the German Bridgehead, and eventually were halted against the Siegfried Line.

This week, we'll be attempting to penetrate the line, further down the river. Over the past week engineers have constructed a pontoon bridge across the river, and in addition to heavy bombing and artillery strikes prepping the German lines, we will be attempting to cross and penetrate their defenses.

The last remaining German Armor in this sector, is sitting in reserve. Expect an armored counter attack if your crossing action is successful.

    Option #1

    Vietnam Campaign: Operation Lincoln

    Highway Security - Pleiku 1966

This Designed to be a mini-campaign that recreates the 12 Day Skirmish in Operation Lincoln along the Cambodian Border. The Campaign will consist of the lead up and then culminating into the in the climax of the Operation, when a CH-47 full of 1st Cavalry Division troopers, was shot down & the effort to rescue the wounded survivors of the crash as they held off a significant Vietnamese assault. The Build up to the climax will involve patrols along Highway 19, as well as establishing night time security for air-mobile artillery pieces which were flown into jungle clearings acting as mobile fire support bases.

    Option #2

    Modern Day: Invasion of Iran

    Iran - July 2019

We will be playing the part of the 1st Cavalry Division during an alternate history scenario, where the United States invades the Islamic Republic of Iran after Iranian forces sink a Japanese Oil Tanker, in addition to shooting down a US Navy Drone over international waters, as well taking down an USN AWACS jet, killing nineteen American Servicemen. After retaliatory strikes, Sh'ia militias launched a series of attacks on Israeli forces occupying the Golan Heights, included SCUD attacks directed at Tehran. Due to the further escalation, a coalition of Western Nations formed and launched a limited conventional invasion of the gulf coast of the Islamic Republic of Iran, seizing vital port cities, refineries, and oil pipelines, with the objective of crippling Iran's economy and forcing them to the negotiating table.

This campaign will be a conventional conflict setting with the potential to turn into counter-insurgency operations. 1st Cav will be operating with Rotary, Fixed Wing, and armored assets from the United State Air Force and Army's arsenals to take down the formidable and versatile Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran on the ground and in the air.

    SITUATION

    TIME October 7, 1944 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT)

WEATHER: 42F (5C); Heavy Fog; Overcast; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

Last weekend we successfully penetrated the  German defenses on the Northwestern corner of our sector. While we had great success in our push to the northwest, 2nd Platoon has been chopped up in an attempt to push northeast towards the Kall River. 2nd Platoon, at less than half strength has consolidated with 3rd Platoon, and they have been forced to dig in and hold in place.

Last weekend we took several prisoners, and after interrogation, they were quick to give up information on a coming German Counter Offensive ordered by Field Marshal Walter Model himself, in an attempt to surround and destroy the US Forces bogged down in the forest.

Seeing that our forces have been depleted, spread thin, and running low on ammunition, the Germans are preparing a counter attack in an attempt to shatter our remaining forces in this sector. 1st Platoon is being redeployed to cover a stretch of the line just a kilo south of the town of Secheval, a German held town. 1st Platoon will have time to dig trenches, foxholes, gun posititions, and hull down our remaining armor.

We can expect heavy artillery barrages on our position, to be followed by several well organized German offensives. 1st Platoon must spread out, cover the entire treeline, and hold the line. If the Germans break through your positions, they will have an open road to Renwez, where our Company HQ, Ammunition, and wounded, lay. If the Germans manage and break through and capture Renwez, there will be no hope of getting out of the forest alive, immediately surrender to the nearest German unit. Due to our good conduct last weekend with German POWs, we can expect that in return you will be treated respectfully as well.

If 1st Platoon holds back all the German offensives, launch an immediate counter attack as soon as possible, and attempt to snatch Secheval from the Germans when they are off balance. After Secheval is taken, dig in, and ENDEX in the town.

    SITUATION

    TIME October 7, 1944 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT)

WEATHER: 42F (5C); Heavy Fog; Overcast; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

Last weekend we successfully penetrated the initial German defenses on the outskirts of the Hurtgen Forest. After capturing the village of Renwez, 1st Platoon entrenched their positions and have waited a week for reinforcements to trickle in from the rear, all the while under constant shelling from German artillery.

In the early morning hours, 3rd Platoon with support from the 71st Armor, launched a probing attack on the Village of Deville, just to our north. 3rd Platoon quickly conducted an unorganized retreat after losing all of their non-commissioned officers, 66% of their platoon, three light armored vehicles, and not even the ability to evacuate all of their wounded. The shocked survivors report the enemy was dug in just southeast of Deville with several light machine gun positions, including a concrete pillbox along the southwestern end of Deville. They also claim that their light armored vehicles had been destroyed by a Tiger. In addition, when the remaining men broke contact and ran back to Renwez, several soldiers ran west into the forest, which was immediately followed with explosions and cries for help. We now believe that the tree line on the western side of Deville is heavily mined, in order to bring our forces into their kill zone.

1st Platoon is now fresh with replacements, and will conduct another attack on Deville at noon, with support form the 71st Armor, who will be bringing heavier armor to the field. 1st Platoon will conduct an assault on Deville, and attempt to drive all the way north along the MSR towards the Germany Artillery positions believed to be in OBJ Jane. There are two main obstacles in between Deville and OBJ Jane, one being a hundred meter tall cliff, where the road has been cut into the mountain, we believe that the Germans will defend this position heavily, and have dubbed it OBJ Marlene. The second obstacle is the forest itself. 1st Platoon will have to slug through two kilometers of forest before reaching OBJ Jane. After our recent experiences it is to be assumed that the forests are heavily mined, so 1st Platoon will stick within 50 meters of either side of the main MSR while advancing through the forest. German resistance is to be expected.

Our Sister Platoons will be conducting attacks along the enemy line to our east, in their areas of operation accordingly.

    SITUATION

    TIME September 30, 1944 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT)

WEATHER: 42F (5C); Heavy Fog; Overcast; Wind <1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

In September of 1944, as Allied troops closed in along the border of the German homeland, they encountered incredible resistance and heavily fortified positions. With the allied advance grinding to a halt, allied commanders believed that they had found a weak point in the German line, and decided to send several infantry divisions through the Hurtgen Forest, in an attempt to out flank the German defenses. Little did Allied Commanders know that they would be condemning 55,000 American's to die, or live out the rest of their life without all four of their limbs. The Germans had been dug in heavily in the forest, established vast minefields, trench lines, pillboxes, gun emplacements, and used the trees to shield their armor from allied aircraft. The Battle of Hurtgen would be the longest single battle that the US Army has ever been engaged in, and was considered a major U.S. Defeat.

This week, we'll be entering the Hurtgen forest for the first time. We will have limited Armor Support, and mortar support. During the previous week, our sister platoons have been conducting combat patrols in no-mans-land, and have successfully mapped several minefields, but some remain undiscovered. Our job will be to be the spearhead of the initial allied breakthrough here in Hurtgen.

In addition, last night a German probe engaged 2nd Platoon's combat patrol, and drove them out of our previous patrol base (OBJ Whiskey). Our first objective will be to push down the MSR, and recapture our old Patrol base OBJ Whiskey.

After OBJ Whiskey is captured, 1st Platoon will advance up the MSR, towards OBJ Vermouth, the forward positions of the German Line, and will engage and clear their forward positions. From there, 1st Platoon will have a good over watch point, and will conduct an attack on OBJ Brandy, which is our designated segment of the primary German defensive line. 1st Platoon will continue to launch attacks on OBJ Brandy in an effort to clear it, and force the Germans into retreat, no matter the costs. Once OBJ Brandy is taken, 1st Platoon will move into OBJ Scotch, clear out the city, and set up defensive positions, expecting an immediate German Counter attack.

Our Sister Platoons will be conducting simultaneous attacks on the enemy line, in their areas of operation, accordingly.

  12. Time for our next campaign vote!

    Option #2

Second World War: Battle of Hurtgen Forest

    Germany - Autumn & Winter of 1944

We will be playing the part of American Infantrymen, who entered Germany in 1944, in the Hurtgen Forest, in an attempt to outflank German forces defending their industrial heartland. American Leaders believed that their forces would be able to march quickly through the forest, and arrive on the open planes of Germany on the far flanks of a Major German Defensive Line. However very quickly it became apparent that the Germans had heavily fortified and mined the forest. The Hurtgen Forest would become a meat grinder, claiming 55,000 Americans, and being the longest running battle that the U.S Army has ever been engaged in, to this day. The Battle was characterized by vast minefields, constant artillery barrages in the dense forest causing tree bursts, patrols through heavy fog, raids between front lines, large hill assaults through barren World War 1-esque battle fields. The dense forest prevented allied Air Support, allowing the Germans to utilize heavy tanks in a defensive posture.
