SITUATION

TIME 9JUNE18 @ 1900 EST (0200 IGT)

WEATHER: 80F (27C); Clear; Wind 0kn NNE; Dawn 0500 IGT; Dusk 1900 IGT

We will be launching an airborne assault behind the Atlantic Wall four hours before the main assault hits the beaches. Our objectives are to seize the Town of Colleville, until the 188th Airborne Artillery Battalion relieves us. We will then be moving on to seize the Key crossroads town of Carentan until we are relieved by the main force.

a. Enemy Disposition

  1. Ost-Battalion manning the coastal defenses.  Probably sleeping in the villages further inland.

  2. Expect Anti-Aircraft & Artillery batteries scattered across the country side, hidden from our Airpower.

  3. Well equipt division of German Veteran's from the Eastern Front, as possible QRF to the East..

b. Friendly Forces

  1. Golf Company, 188th Airborne Artillery Battalion

c. 1970s - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

  1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
  2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
  3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.

MISSION

1st Platoon will drop behind Omaha Beach in the vicinity of Saint-Laurent. We will rally by a small farm a kilometer to the south of the village, and will clear it from any enemy precense, before packing up and moving onto Le-Bray. Le-Bray is our main target before sun-rise. We need to secure this Crossroads so that the 188th Airborne Artillery may move into position to assist us with capturing Colleville once the sun rises.

We will then assault Colleville with the 188th. Once taken, they will dig-in and wait for the main assault forces to break through, while we march south towards Carentan.

Notes from Commander:

  • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 40.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
  • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.
