    SITUATION

    TIME MAY 4 1972 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT)

WEATHER: 75F (27C); Fog; Overcast; Wind 1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

Last week we successfully secured the southwestern most island. The Vietnamese forces on the eastern island have dug in and are determined to hold onto every inch of ground. They patrol the shores of the island heavily and have a large system of anti aircraft emplacements making a frontal assault from the water or air very difficult. 1st Platoon will infiltrate the island under the cover of darkness and will clear the southern half of the Anti-Aircraft network in preparations for an ariel assault of the airfield next week.

    Notes from Commander:

    • All requests for Close Air Support/Medevac/Resupply/Insertion are to go to Mako 1-6 on FREQ 60.0. Mako 1-6 will contact Rattler 1-6 on FREQ 50.0 to request an asset to assist 1st Platoon as necessary. Once the asset is in the area of Operation for Mako 1-6, Infantry can contact the bird via CAS Net FREQ 45.0 to guide in the bird/direct close air support.
    • If an infantry element is in threat of being overrun and requires immediate assistance, they may declare a "Tactical Emergency" to Mako 1-6, who will then have Rattler 1-6 redirect all available air assets to Mako 1-6's Area of Operation to prevent the unit from being overrun.

Since our operations began in Pulau province, we have eliminated the majority of NVA Forces, including an entire platoon of T-55s. We believe that their few remaining armored vehicles have pulled back with their Viet Cong counterparts to a small fortress on the northern tip of the Island, where they are getting supplied by Sea.

This Fortress is very heavily garrisoned. In an effort to thin their ranks, we will be conducting an ambush on the VC infantrymen who often travel to the local villages at night to visit with their families and gather food. We will set up an ambush on the northern side of Taboko Village, using nightfall to get into position. The VC often leave their villages and head back to their strong points just before the sun rises. After eliminating any military aged males that exit the village at sunup, 1st Platoon will sweep the village, then call for resupply after the village is secure. From there 1st Platoon will head north and launch an assault on the last Communist Stronghold on the Island. It is believe that a few armored vehicles have retreated and are in the stronghold. It is also believed that the enemy possess light anti-air craft guns, such as twin 51mm DSHK emplacements.

    SITUATION

    TIME APR 14 1972 @ 1900 EST (0600 IGT)

WEATHER: 75F (27C); Fog; Overcast; Wind 1kn NNE; Dawn 0600 IGT; Dusk 1800 IGT

In the afternoon hours of April 6th 1972, North Vietnamese Forces launched the largest offensive since Tet in 1968. With the help of local guerrilla, NVA Forces simultaneously launched offensive on every major South Vietnamese Installation and Provencal capitals with large amounts of Russian supplied T-34-85's & T-55. NVA Forces have also utilized their small amount of MiG-21s & AN-2 Colt Aircraft.

Control of Pulau Island was handed over to South Vietnamese Forces in December 1971. Since then revolutionary sentiment has been growing due to the lack of action by the South Vietnamese Forces. We believe that over the four month period large caches of supplies, armored vehicles, heavy artillery, and Surface to Air Missiles were smuggled onto the island & used during the offensive.

Only a single Platoon of ARVN forces managed to evade capture and be evacuated before the Island fell. All others are believed to have been captured and executed; Viet Cong hit squads also managed to execute a vast majority of the civil officials residing in the cities and villages. We have lost complete control of the Island chain.

Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment is to accompany the 4th Battalion, 147th ARVN Marine Regiment and regain control over the island.

ARVN Marine Reconnaissance platoon has landed on the southern most tip of Pulau Monyet and begun conducting clandestine reconnaissance of the island.

According to their intel, the majority of NVA forces have left the Island to assist with the offensives on the mainland. Control of the Island has been handed over to the NLF, while small contignents of NVA Forces remain to operate and guard the Airfield and Surface to Air Missile installations, which now cover a majority of the island and block the ability to use our fixed wing assets to neutralize Vietnamese Hard points. We are still able to utilize our rotary wing aircraft as long as they operate below 30 Meters from the ground (10 Meters above the Canopy).

Since this overlapping system of Surface to Air Missiles has been installed on the Islands, it is believed that two Russian MiG-21's have landed on the Island and intend to operate within the heavy cover of the Surface to Air Missile batteries.

    MISSION

Our First Objective (OBJ Alpha) will be to conduct an air assault on the Island of Pulau Monyet. A reconnaissance Platoon of ARVN Marines have secured an LZ. Rendezvous with them, then move to OBJ Alpha. Search the Hangars for MiG-21's, and destroy them. From there, 1st Platoon is to move northwest and neutralize the largest Anti-Aircraft battery on the island which includes a single Surface to Air Missile (OBJ Bravo). Depending on time, 1st Platoon will then move onto OBJ Charlie, where high altitude Ariel reconnaissance has spotted a large concentration of fuel trucks, where the NVA is attempting to gather up all the remaining fuel on the island to run their armored vehicles.

The 1st Cavalry Division will be fighting hard to retake land lost to the North Vietanemese during the Easter Offensive in the Spring of 1972. The Easter Offensive was the first Vietnamese offensive to utilize massive amounts of Armor and a small amount of Aircraft. Expect to be going up against T-34-85s as well as T-55's, with the possibility of light attack aircraft such as the AN-2. The Vietnamese forces are likely to go to ground after any American forces arrive en-mass.

    1. SITUATION

    Date and time:

     30. Jan. 1945    00.00

WEATHER: 84F (29C); Clear; Wind 15kn NNE; Dawn 0800 IGT; Dusk 1700 IGT

Japanese forces are holding 500 POWs in a camp inside occupied Filipino territory, we are afraid they will be killed if we do not rescue them. Their location has been found, they are located in a rundown airfield. Unfortunately the garrison is too strong to mount a straight up attack.

1st Platoon is Tasked with creating a diversion, drawing out and ambushing the troops stationed at the airfield, thinning them out in preparation of an assault. Local intelligence have pointed out two targets that will most likely draw out troops from the airfield.

    a. Enemy Disposition

    1. Japanese lightly armed Garrison Troops
    2. The Garrison troops are known to use both foot and motorized patrols.
    3. No Armor has been spotted in the Area of Operation.

    b. Friendly Forces

    1. None

    c. 1945 - Rules of Engagement

On order from your commander, enemy military and paramilitary forces are declared hostile and may be attacked subject to the following instructions:

    1. Positive Identification (PID) is required prior to engagement. PID is a reasonable certainty that the proposed target is a legitimate military target. If no PID, contact your next highest commander for decision.
    2. Do not engage anyone who has surrendered, or is unarmed or wounded.
    3. Any requests for fire support or close air support within 600 Meters of a civilian center must first get authorization from commanding officer.
    4. Unless there is Positive Identification of Targets in an unoccupied building, structures are not to be engaged or targeted by heavy Ordinance including Mortars, Artillery, Armor, or any other forms of high explosives.

  10. Hey Guys!

This poll will decide the setting of our next campaign! The Poll will close by 23:59 EST Tuesday, December 4th.

Details about each option can be found below.

    Thanks,

    Kauffman

    Option #1

    MACV - SOG

Behind Enemy Lines in North Vietnam 1972

This will be a clandestine special forces campaign, similiar to our very first campaign here in the 1st Cavalry Division.  We will split into two teams, and operate in different AOs while also being able to work together. Being inserted deep behind enemy lines, we will set up hidden camps within the jungles, where we will stash supplies and respawn. We will gather intelligence, conduct deep recon, and plan hit and run style raids on valuable North Vietnamese Targets, POW rescue, and when our objectives our complete we will be extracted from the depths of the jungle. Our campaign will be set in 1972, late war, which means new equipment such as XM-122s, China Lakes, Stoner Machine Guns, and other Late War equipment will be able to be used.

    Option #2

    1st Cavalry Special Reconnaissance Unit

The Great Raid - Pacific 1945

We will be sent deep into Japanese controlled territory within the Philippines. We will working with the local population, and conduct operations while undercover disguised as civilians, while operating in urban areas. We will set up safe houses and set up hidden camps in the jungles, where we will respawn and store supplies. we will conduct reconnaissance, raids, and our operations will all be preparation for our final operation where we assault the Prison and free many many American, British, and Dutch Prisoners of war who're in danger of being executed by their Japanese Captors. This Campaign will take place during 1945, so many "toys" will be available for us to use, such as experimental equipment and technology.

    Option #3

    British Commandos

Episodic Raiding Campaign West & Pacific 1940-1945

We will be playing as British Commandos, and will be conducting various different raids throughout the second world war, on separate maps, and during separate time periods. Including Raids on the Japanese in in Burma, and raiding German heavy water plants in Norway. Each individual operation taking place on a different map, setting, and time period. The British Commandos had a vast array of weaponry and equipment at their disposal, so we will be able to use lots of experimental and high tech equipment & weapons during this Campaign.
